Chennakeshava temple at Belur, Hassan district, Karnataka is probably the most sophisticated and grand temple built in the Hoysala empire. The temple was commissioned by King Vishnuvardhan in 1117 AD after he won a major military campaign in 1116. Belur was earlier also known by the name velapuri and was the capital of Hoysala empire. One can reach Belur by bus from Bangalore or Mysore, by train. Nearest airport is Bangalore. Also, you can try KSTDC day tours to visit Belur.
