Dutch Cemetery, kerala

Dutch Cemetery is located on Beach road very near to St Francis Church in Fort Kochi area of Cochin. It is the oldest European cemetery in India. It was built in 1724. The tomb here resemble old Dutch architecture of that period and do not carry a cross unlike modern ones. The last burial at this cemetery was in 1913 when Captain Joseph Ethelbert Winckler was laid to rest. It has a mixture of both Dutch and British people.

The Dutch ruled Fort kochi till 1795 for 112 years. The cemetery is maintained by St. Francis Church, Fort Kochi.
